Departmental Awards
The Department of Religious Studies offers the following recognitions and awards to students:
Outstanding Academic Achievement in Religious Studies
This award recognizes graduating seniors who have earned a 4.0 GPA in the Religious Studies major.
Academic Excellence in Religious Studies
This award recognizes graduating seniors who have earned between a 3.5-3.99 GPA in the Religious Studies major.
Excellence in Undergraduate Research and Scholarship
Students who complete any type of designated undergraduate research project in Religious Studies are eligible for this award upon the recommendation of the faculty. Competition for this award is open to both Religious Studies majors and minors.
Outstanding Service or Leadership
This award recognizes those students who make substantial contributions to the department through their service or leadership.
University Awards
Departmental Distinction
Graduating seniors in Religious Studies will be recognized for departmental distinction if they have attained an overall GPA of at least 3.5 and a GPA in the major of at least 3.8.
University Research Scholar
Students completing research projects in RELS 492 or 499 may apply for recognition as University Research Scholars.
University Scholar
Honors students who complete at least 21 hours of courses in the Honors Program (including at least two Honors Special Topics seminars and an Honors section of LA 478) and maintain an overall GPA of at least 3.25 and a GPA of at least 3.5 in Honors coursework may graduate with Distinction as a University Scholar.
